Benvenuto Brunello 2011 extraordinary edition!

BENVENUTO BRUNELLO 2011

This year Benvenuto Brunello 2011 will be carried out in a different way with respect to previous years. First of all, the overarching theme of the event will be the 150th anniversary of the Unity of Italy and the tasting will not be carried out in a large tent staked in the square of the fortress but rather in two separate structures: the cloisters of the Museum of Montalcino and in a structure mounted in the gardens outside the fortress.

50th annual Barbarossa festival and Madonna di Vitaleta festival begin this weekend in San Quirico d'Orica

The 50th annual Barbarossa festival and the 10th annual Madonna di Vitaleta festival (Download MANIFESTO MADONNA E BARBAROSSA 2010) begin this weekend in San Quirico d'Orcia, about 30 minutes by car from our village of Sant'Angelo in Colle.

The beautiful festival of Barbarossa celebrates the history of Frederick 1 Barbarossa (Red Beard) Holy Roman Emperor and includes pageants, processions, "alfieri" the "flag bearers", and "re-enactments".

The festival of the Madonna of Vitaleta commemorates the famous statue of the Madonna by artist of the Renaissance Andrea della Robbia which is preserved in the "cappella" of Vitaleta above.

On Saturday 28 August the statue will be transferred to the Chiesa della Collegiata in San Quirico d'Orcia and public music will be performed in the piazza.

  

 

Contrada della tartuca (tortoise) has won the Palio dell'Assunta 2010

The Contrada della tartuca (tortoise) has won the Palio dell'Assunta (the Palio of the Assumption) yesterday 16 August 2010. Herewith is the official site of the Palio di Siena.

The girls of the populace of the tartuca, the "tartuchine", are noted for their colorful festivities to celebrate their victory (and they have conquered the palio also in July 2009). As the senesi say, "fortunati i maschietti", "fortunate the boys"!

During the weekend has been finished the "festone" festival of our village, Sant'Angelo in Colle. It was held in the main piazza of the village.

Herewith me playing the clarinetto with our orchestra.

We have called the porchetta the "Maestro"! 

They are seen the herbs utilized to stuff the suckling pig before being roasted and sliced.

Herewith my father who enjoy the porchetta! We are happy that my father has been elected to the Council of the Administration of the Consortium of the Wine Brunello di Montalcino.

Giro d'Italia in Montalcino tomorrow

The Giro d'Italia arrives tomorrow in Montalcino Saturday 15 may.

It is an exciting day for all of us here in Montalcino, especially with Vincenzo Nibali of Italia in the lead.

Herewith is the route to be travelled by the cyclists.

As you can see from the hills of the route, it is not a easy trajectory from Carrara to Montalcino.

We will look forward to celebration with a glass of Sangiovese tomorrow night in Montalcino.

Reports from Vinitaly, Good News, and Our US Importer Has Received a Prestigious Award

On Friday, our good friend and US importer Mr. Anthony Terlato, owner and founder of Terlato Wines, has received a prestigious award by the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy. It has been given for the inaugural time to "Three individuals who distinguished themselves in developing the Italian-American relationship through wine will be honored by the chamber with their inaugural award: Anthony Terlato, Chairman Terlato Wines International; Mr. Richard Spogli, former U.S.A. Ambassador to Italy and wine entrepreneur; and Mr. Severino Barzan, wine and cellar master, and owner of "La Bottega del Vino" restaurants in Verona and New York City". 

Congratulations to Mr. Terlato from all of us in the Tenuta Il Poggione family!

The other good news of the fair for this year was that we have seen the consumers begin again to go out to the restaurants and to appreciate the just wines. 

Also, it would not be Vinitaly if it has not rained as it did yesterday!
