In the last period, the climatic progression has been very difficult inasumuch as it has rained often. Light rains and then sunshine but also more consistent rains with rainfall of 40 millimeters.
The minimum temperatures of yesterday and today have fallen from 15° C. to 10° C.
The abbundant rain makes the grass grow, besides the vines. And the work in the vineyards has to continue at a fast pace to keep up. Moreover, the continuous rains force us to make treatments against the fungal disease peronospora more frequently.
As we have been visiting the vineyards to monitor them, this year again there is the presence of the wild orchids in the vineyards and on the escarpments. This is a demmonstration of a healthy environment with a presence of biodiversity.
"A white Super Tuscan... The wine smelled fresh and lively, like a green whiff of spring. On the palate, it exhibited focused and controlled fruit, prickly acids, some aromatic qualities, and a surprisingly lush finish. It was light but complex, and a fine value for the price. Sampled with a white pizza topped with arugula and parmesan, the food-friendly acids kicked into high gear, and the wine became juicier and rounder. A delight."
Earlier this week, we have begun making the first treatments against the fungal diseases Peronospora and Oidium. The seasonal progression of the last few weeks with rain and temperatures above the average has created the preconditions for the development of these adversities. If they are not cured preventively, they will provoke grave damages to the grapes.
In order to reduce the plant protection products to combat these adversities, our winery for years has been using small doses of copper oxychloride and micronised sulphur which have the great advantage of having a limited impact on the environment.
